ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed authorities to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of domestic oil consumption and reserves, underscoring the government’s commitment to averting a fuel shortage amid regional uncertainties. Chairing a high-level meeting on the country’s petroleum product reserves, the prime minister said Pakistan had successfully avoided a fuel crisis thanks to sustained oversight and improved strategic planning. “Thanks to ongoing oversight and improved strategies, the country avoided a fuel shortage crisis despite tensions in the region,” he said. Officials briefed the prime minister on the current status of petroleum reserves and projected future requirements. They confirmed that Pakistan currently maintains an adequate supply of petroleum products but stressed the need for ongoing conservation measures to manage demand efficiently. Plans are also in place to secure oil imports to meet anticipated needs, they added. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik, Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, and top officials from relevant departments.
