Final farewell - Beirut mourns Armenian Hezbollah fighter killed in south Lebanon clashes

"Residents in Beirut held a funeral on Tuesday for Adam Hakimian, an Armenian fighter within Hezbollah who was killed in military clashes with Israeli forces in southern Lebanon Footage shows mourners holding up pictures of Hakimian and gathering around his coffin as they chant 'Labbaik Ya Hussein' (At your service, O Hussein). Residents observed funeral prayers as emotional family and friends paid their final respects. "From the moment Adam arrived in this neighbourhood, he had a deep devotion to the resistance. He joined its ranks and sacrificed his life for this righteous cause," stated Sami Safa, a friend of the deceased. "We are proud of him and of his Armenian background, because he gave his life as a member of this community, defending the south, Lebanon, and its people," he added. Following his death, Hezbollah released a statement on social media mourning the loss of Hakimian, who was reportedly 22 years old. "The young Lebanese Armenian Adam Krikor Hakimian attained martyrdom within the ranks of the Islamic Resistance – Hezbollah, while fighting the Israeli enemy," the group announced. According to media outlets affiliated with the group, Hakmian was originally from the Burj al-Barajneh area and came from an Armenian Christian background. He later embraced Islam and the Shiite faith after joining Hezbollah. Clashes in Lebanon broke out on March 2, following Hezbollah's rocket launches toward Israel in 'revenge' for the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei in Israeli airstrikes. Israeli military operations in Lebanon continue, with Tel Aviv stating they target Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure. This comes despite a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Israel on one hand, and Iran on the other, which took effect last Wednesday. Iran maintains that the agreement includes a cessation of attacks on Lebanon, but Israel rejects this position, insisting that the Lebanese front is separate from the existing arrangements. On Sunday, Iranian-American talks in Islamabad ended without an agreement or announcement of further negotiation rounds, deepening uncertainty over the prospects for de-escalation. It comes as diplomats from Israel and Lebanon are expected to meet alongside US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Tuesday, marking the first time the two countries have engaged in direct talks in more than three decades."
