ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday commended Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating and hosting negotiations between the United States and Iran. The president said this during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Zardari lauded Pakistan’s tireless diplomatic engagement in hosting and advancing dialogue between the two warring countries. He said that the evolving regional security and diplomatic situation would have far-reaching implications not only for the region but also for global security, economy, and politics. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed the president on all aspects of the ongoing negotiations, including various stages of the dialogue and progress achieved through Pakistan’s mediation efforts. President Zardari appreciated the collective efforts of the government, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar, the Chief of Defence Forces, and other state institutions, for making the diplomatic initiative successful. He emphasised that exemplary coordination among all stakeholders played a key role in facilitating this high-level engagement. Highlighting Pakistan’s historic role in promoting global peace and regional stability, the president said that by providing a platform for these significant talks, Pakistan has reaffirmed its position as a responsible and key state in the international community and once again demonstrated its commitment to peace.
