POSCO Group Chairman Chang In-hwa attended the World Steel Association's general meeting in Berlin this week, calling for closer industry cooperation to accelerate the shift away from carbon-intensive steelmaking. Chang represented the Korean steel industry at a meeting of the association’s executive committee — its highest decision-making body — on April 13. There, chief executives from China Baowu Steel Group, Japan’s Nippon Steel and India’s JSW Steel gathered to discuss long-term challenges, including the energy crisis, geopolitical risks and the international standardization of carbon emissions measurement. The chairman stressed that decarbonization remains a shared imperative for the global steel industry despite structural headwinds from weakening demand and rising energy costs. He shared POSCO’s decarbonization road map with participants. "Close cooperation and solidarity across the global steel industry are essential if we are to achieve a successful low-carbon transition and ensure that low-emission steel is properly valued in the market," Chang said.
