Galaxy Z Flip 8: In summary 22 July is the hotly tipped launch date It could bring a slimmer and more lightweight design Rumours point towards a return to Qualcomm Snapdragon power Cameras and battery size might be identical to what’s come before Samsung made a big splash with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, bringing in a handful of updates that we’ve been clamouring for, but now that the phone has spent some time on the market, our attention is turning toward its next mainline successor. Here’s all we know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 so far. Given that the proliferation of foldable phones doesn’t seem all that long ago, there is something mindblowing about the idea of Samsung’s mainline flip phone going into its eighth iteration – especially when we don’t even have the foldable iPhone yet. To Samsung’s credit, not only did the company help to establish modern flip phones as part of the mainstream conversation, but with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 , it reminded us all of why the company is a force to be reckoned with in this area. After having yielded some ground to the excellent Motorola Razr phones over the last few years, Samsung reclaimed it all with a vastly superior outer display that pairs perfectly with the recently revamped One UI software. With this in mind, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could go even further, making it one of the most anticipated flip phones of the year. We’ve rounded up all the rumours as well as using our expert analysis to take a look at the possible release date, price and specs. When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 be released? In summary 22 July reveal date seemingly confirmed Set to launch alongside the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide We’ve been waiting with bated breath to find out when the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 might come to market, and it seems as if all signs point towards 22 July . This reveal won’t be too surprising to any long-term Samsung fans as the brand has used July as the go-to month to unveil its new foldable for the last two generations. This means that we also anticipate seeing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its rumoured wider variant at the same time. Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry By sticking to the July release, the Z Flip 8 will likely come to market ahead of its key competitors like the Motorola Razr 70 Ultra . For reference, here are when the Z Flip 8’s predecessors came to market: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – February 2020 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G – August 2020 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – August 2021 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 – August 2022 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 – August 2023 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – July 2024 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 – July 2025 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE – July 2025 Source: Korea Economic TV How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 cost? In summary There are no concrete rumours yet about a price increase A higher price tag isn’t out of the question given recent events The question of price is always a worry for flagship phones amidst the current wave of economic turbulence, and while there haven’t been any rumours yet to suggest that the Z Flip 8 will go up in price, the idea isn’t without some traction. Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry We’ve also seen a handful of price increases within the Z Flip range already, with UK pricing jumping from £999 to £1,049 when going from the Flip 4 to the Flip 5 , while the US saw a similar increase from $999.99 to $1,099.99 during the shift from the Flip 5 to the Flip 6. More recently, the price of the Z Flip 7 and the Z Flip 7 has increased in South Korea since their release, marking a reflection on the growing economic turbulence worldwide which has led to the likes of Sony, Microsoft and Sonos increasing their prices over the last few years. Samsung has also just raised prices of a boatload of Galaxy devices in the UK and US, including phones and tablets, by as much as £150/$280. If the Flip 8 does retain the original pricing of its predecessor, then we can expect a starting rate of £1,049/$1,099.99, but we’ll update this section the moment we have more news to tell, so be sure to check back in the future. Here’s what the last few Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phones cost at launch: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – £1,300/$1,380 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 – £1,399/$1,449 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – £949/$999 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 – £999/$999 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 – £1,049/$999 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – £1,049/$1,099 Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 – £1,049/$1,099 What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 have? In summary Anticipate a more refined and lighter Z Flip phone, but with an almost identical look CAD Renders show a slightly slimmer build than before The phone could have a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 The cameras and battery may remain unchanged over the Z Flip 7 A slimmer build One of the very first rumours to appear regarding the Z Flip 8 was that Samsung is hoping to go all in on mimicking the slim build of the Z Fold 7 , which went a long way towards minimising the bulk that a lot of foldable phones have typically suffered from. Smartphone tipster Jukan was the first to get this ball rolling, suggesting that Samsung was looking to make the Z Flip 8 at least 10% slimmer than its predecessor. Samsung plans to expand Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 sales by 10%… aiming for breakthrough improvements in thickness and weight Samsung Electronics plans to go all-in on securing leadership in the foldable phone market next year as well. It has set a target to increase sales of the Z… pic.twitter.com/OstEOlBzIt — Jukan (@jukan05) November 12, 2025 That rumour was then corroborated by more information suggesting that the phone might weigh as little as 150g. For context, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 clocks in at 188g so it would require some fairly impressive feats of engineering to lighten the Flip 8 by 38g, which is why it’s worth taking this particular rumour with a grain of salt. In the time since those rumours, we’ve now had CAD renders turn up for the Z Flip 8, painting a more concrete picture of what we can expect. At a glance, the newer phone is almost indistinguishable from the Z Flip 7, but the phone does look a bit slimmer than before. The accompanying dimensions back this up with the phone supposedly being 13.2mm thick when folded, which would be an improvement on the 13.7mm thickness of last year’s Z Flip phone. Credit: OnLeaks, My Mobiles Admittedly, given that the numbers being discussed are so minute, we imagine that it’d be difficult to really see the improvement unless you happen to be holding the Z Flip 7 and the Flip 8 side by side. Source: Ice Universe | My Mobiles A beefed-up Snapdragon processor Samsung’s chipset strategy has always felt tied to a pendulum. With the company’s mainline Galaxy S range, the phones have moved from Snapdragon to Exynos chips and back again so many times that we’ve lost count. By comparison, the Z Flip series was surprisingly consistent in sticking with Snapdragon CPUs for almost its entire run, that is, until the Z Flip 7 came along and moved over to the Exynos 2500. While the 2500 chipset wasn’t bad by any means, and we found that it held up quite well in everyday use, it seems as though Samsung is taking a step backwards by siding with Qualcomm once more, but this time there’s a twist. Chris Martin / Foundry According to a South Korean news outlet, Samsung has had a hand in the manufacturing of a specific Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset based on its super-efficient 2nm process. What this means is that the phone could end up having a version of Snapdragon’s latest chip that’s actually better than the one found in recent phones like the OnePlus 15 , which could mean a serious leap in power for Samsung’s flip phone. Our hope is that this also leads to a boost in software wherein the outer display is more capable and can be used to interact with a greater selection of apps from the jump, without the need for additional configuration. Source: New Daily Almost identical cameras In what is sure to be a blow to hopeful Z Flip 8 adopters (but not too surprising given Samsung’s recent habits in this area), it now seems as if the phone will feature almost identical cameras to what we’ve seen before. Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry The latest rumour on the block is that Samsung has no major upgrades planned for the Galaxy Z Flip 8’s cameras, meaning that from a hardware perspective, it’s likely to continue using the same 50Mp wide-angle and 12Mp ultrawide from the Flip 7. There’s always a chance that Samsung might try to better optimise its software to enhance the phone’s cameras in some way, but it’s a disappointing idea nonetheless, particularly as those sensors are already stagnant. The last time we got a major camera update on these phones was when the Z Flip 6 moved on from a 12Mp wide-angle lens to a superior (and larger) 50Mp 1/1.57-inch sensor. Otherwise, the ultrawide camera has remained practically unchanged for the entirety of the Z Flip line’s existence, which isn’t a great look when you consider that they are supposed to be part of Samsung’s premium range. Source: Galaxy Club A big battery disappointment Given that the Z Flip 8 appears to be using identical cameras to what we’ve had before, our hope was that Samsung might be looking to focus its efforts elsewhere, with battery life being one such factor that could do with a serious upgrade. While we understand that the form factor prevents flip phones in general from having massive batteries, the 4,300mAh cell of the Z Flip 7 still felt a bit stingy and it could be drained fairly quickly under intense use. Unfortunately, it now seems as though the battery will also be unchanged. Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry The most recent word on the street now claims that the Z Flip 8 will have the same 4,300mAh capacity. The rumour also suggests that the battery itself will has a slightly different configuration under the hood, as it’ll be split across two cells (the standard practice for the Z Flip range), 1,150mAh and 3,024mAh. By comparison, the Z Flip 7 used 1,189mAh and 2,985mAh batteries instead. It’ll be interesting to see if the slightly altered configuration does allow Samsung to better optimise battery performance, but it’s unlikely that such a change will lead to any massive uptick in longevity.
