EXECUTIVE Secretary Ralph Recto met with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan to discuss the "overall" bilateral relations between the Philippines and China, Malacañang said Wednesday. The Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) said Recto and Jing met on Tuesday, April 14, in Malacañang to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations. "During the courtesy call, the ambassador noted resumption of dialogues aimed at enhancing bilateral relations," the OES said in a statement. "Ambassador Jing hoped that more visits would happen this year to send positive signals about the bilateral relations," it added. The OES said that Recto and Jing also discussed tourism, people-to-people exchanges, more direct flights between Philippine and Chinese cities, fighting transnational crimes, and overall economic relations, as well as the energy situation. The Chinese Embassy in Manila said, "the two sides exchanged views on China-Philippines relations and a wide range of issues, including South China Sea, law enforcement cooperation, economic and trade ties, as well as people-to-people exchanges." Joining Recto were Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Maria Luwalhati Dorotan Tiuseco, Undersecretary Facundo Palafox IV, and Undersecretary Erwin Sta. Ana of the Office of the Executive Secretary. Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Maria Andrelita Austria and Deputy Assistant Secretary Princess Tomas were also present in the meeting.
