NGCP: Rates to go up in April

The National Grid Corporation (NGCP) said Wednesday its overall transmission rates were higher in March and will be reflected in this month's billing period. It said that overall transmission rates went up to P1.7526 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in March from P1.6810 per kWh in February, mainly because of the increase of the ancillary services rate. For the components, NGCP reported that its transmission wheeling rate, or the fee for delivering power through the transmission grid, slightly increased to P0.7022 per kWh in March from P0.6677 per kWh in February. It noted, however, that this increase will not have any impact on its revenues, as the company’s allowable revenue is capped by the Energy Regulatory Commission. Meanwhile, the ancillary services rate went up to P0.8516 per kWh in March from P0.8275 per kWh in February, mainly because of the increase in electricity demand in Visayas coupled with the increase in the price of the fuels used. It noted, however, that it does not earn from ancillary services and does not benefit from any change in its prices, as these are remitted directly to generation companies with bilateral contracts with, and also to the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines for ancillary services sourced from the Reserve Market. "As the system operator, our priority is to ensure the grid remains resilient during supply-demand imbalances. NGCP does not profit from ancillary service charges, as these are remitted directly to the providers who help us maintain the continuous flow of electricity across the country," NGCP said.
