"Vietnamese President To Lam met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday during his four-day state visit, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. "Your decision to visit China at the earliest opportunity following your election as State President fully reflects the high importance you attach to the development of China-Vietnam relations," Xi said while welcoming his Vietnamese counterpart. "Regardless of how the international landscape may evolve, China will consistently regard Vietnam as a priority in its neighbourhood diplomacy," the president emphasised. He also expressed Beijing's readiness to deepen 'solidarity' between the two countries while advancing their 'comprehensive strategic cooperation.' For his part, To Lam congratulated the Chinese government and its people on the successful implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan. "I am also confident that China will successfully carry out its 15th Five-Year Plan, while continuing to serve as a stable pillar and a key engine of global growth and development," Lam added. Within days of assuming the presidency, Lam confirmed a state visit to China from April 14 to 17, marking his first overseas trip in his new dual role as both President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. During the visit, he also attended a welcoming ceremony at Beijing's Great Hall of the People. To Lam was sworn in as Vietnam's 15th state president last week. The National Assembly unanimously elected To Lam as state president, with all 495 deputies present voting in favour. He also served as the 13th president, and takes over from Luong Cuong, the 14th leader."
