Marcos rolls out rice aid program in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday led the rollout of the rice aid initiative in Manila as part the government's efforts to provide immediate relief to families affected by the ongoing economic pressures driven by the war in the Middle East. The President was joined by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno during the rice distribution program at SM Manila. Each beneficiary will receive 10 kilograms of rice under the program named "Biyayang Bigas sa Maynila." The initiative is funded through the Local Government Support Fund, with P286 million allocated for its implementation in the city. Malacañang said the program aimed to provide immediate food relief to approximately 80,000 families and support transport and service sector workers for six months. "It also aims to strengthen demand for locally sourced rice, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to easing economic pressure and uplifting Filipino farmers," the Palace said.
