JV Ejercito wants Senate inquiry into alleged sugar over-importation

MANILA, Philippines – A resolution calling for an inquiry into the alleged over-importation of sugar has been filed in the Senate. Sen. JV Ejercito filed on Thursday Senate Resolution No. 369, seeking to direct the Senate panel on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform to conduct the said inquiry to protect the local sugar industry. “Recent reports from industry stakeholders have raised concerns regarding the alleged mismanagement within the Sugar Regulatory Administration, over-importation of sugar, and the improper timing and overlapping of importation, which may adversely affect domestic producers,” Ejercito said in the resolution.
