PM Shehbaz arrives in Doha to discuss regional peace efforts with Qatari leadership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday arrived in Doha on his official visit to Qatar to discuss regional peace efforts among other things. According to the PM Office, the premier was warmly received by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, upon arrival. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Qatari armed forces also presented a guard of honour to the prime minister and the Pakistani delegation. On the occasion of the visit, Doha airport and parts of the city were adorned with Pakistani flags. During the visit, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where discussions will also cover Pakistan’s ongoing efforts for regional and global peace. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi, and the prime minister’s spokesperson for international media Musharraf Zaidi are accompanying him on the visit. The prime minister on Wednesday embarked on a visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye, after Washington and Tehran held their highest-level talks in decades in Islamabad last weekend, to bolster efforts to end the regional conflict. Earlier today, PM Shehbaz shared with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud the recent developments related to Pakistan’s peace efforts that led to the US- Iran ceasefire and the recently held round of historic talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad. During the meeting, two leaders held detailed discussions on the evolving regional situation, and the PM expressed full solidarity and support for Saudi Arabia in the wake of the recent regional escalation, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a press release. “He conveyed deep condolences over the loss of precious lives and said the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Saudi brethren,” the PMO said.
