House panel to tackle alleged unexplained wealth, SALN of VP Duterte on April 22

MANILA, Philippines — The House Committee on Justice will tackle the alleged unexplained wealth as well as Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) of Vice President Sara Duterte in its next hearing which is on Apr. 22, 2026. "We intend to focus for the next hearing on the allegations of unexplained wealth and that is why the Ombudsman, the SEC, and the BIR were not asked in today's hearing," Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro, the committee chairman, said in a press conference on Tuesday night. SEC stands for Securities and Exchange Commission while BIR stands for Bureau of Internal Revenue. The Office of the Ombudsman provided the committee with SALNs of Duterte after the committee issued a subpoena for SALNs of Duterte who is a former Davao City mayor. The SALNs that the committee sought in the subpoena were for "2022 – 2025 inclusive, 2007 – 2013 inclusive, and 2016 – 2022 inclusive". Last Tuesday, the committee decided to issue a subpoena to former senator Antonio Trillanes IV to attend the Apr. 22, 2026 hearing. Mamamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima, who moved for the issuance of subpoena ad testificandum and duces tecum to Trillanes, said he "was cited in the Saballa et al. complaint in relation to the specific allegation on VP Duterte's assets ..." The Saballa complaint is one of the two impeachment complaints filed against Duterte that the committee is hearing. The committee is conducting the hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to impeach Duterte. "Absent any statement of ultimate facts in any of these Impeachment Complaints, there is nothing for respondent to answer. Respondent thus only admits averments therein insofar as they allege her election, assumption to the Office of the Vice President, appointment as Secretary of Education, and her prior offices as Mayor and Vice Mayor of Davao City", Duterte's answer to the complaints read. "The rest of the allegations, including the annexes and so-called evidence attached to the Impeachment Complaints, are specifically denied for being false, misleading, impertinent, and mere conclusions of fact and law", it read.
