Prayers for peace - Pope Leo XIV holds Mass at Bamenda Airport ahead of Yaounde return

"Pope Leo XIV presided over a landmark Mass at Bamenda Airport on Thursday, bringing a powerful close to this leg of his apostolic journey before returning to the capital, Yaounde. Footage shows thousands of faithful gathered at the airport, greeting the papal convoy with jubilant cheers. The Mass began with the Pope incensing the altar and offering a blessing, and culminated in the Eucharistic liturgy, including the consecration of bread and wine. Pope Leo XIV is departing Bamenda for the capital, Yaounde, where he is scheduled to meet Cameroonian political leaders and representatives of civil society at the presidential palace. The meeting aims to translate his earlier spiritual appeals into a tangible roadmap for advancing inclusive national dialogue. Leo XIV's first apostolic visit to Africa runs from April 13 to 23, beginning in Algeria. The tour also includes stops in Angola and Equatorial Guinea, with the Cameroon leg taking place from April 15 to 18."
