4 SPC Samlip officials booked over workers' finger injuries

Police said Friday they have booked the manager of SPC Samlip's bread factory in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, and three other officials in connection to an accident in which workers' fingers were severed last week. The four officials were booked by the Gyeonggi Siheung Police Station on Thursday on charges of professional negligence causing injury. The accident occurred in the wee hours of April 10, when two workers in their 20s and 30s, respectively, had parts of their fingers severed during the replacement of a conveyor senor. They underwent finger replantation surgery and are currently recovering. The four officials are accused of failing to fulfill their safety duties in connection with the accident. Their booking came just two days after President Lee Jae Myung instructed a thorough investigation into the case. The factory manager is said to have been separately booked by the labor ministry on charges of violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
