"Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva backed Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s ‘no to war’ position, saying Brazil and Spain stand “in the same trench” about the conflict in Iran. During a joint press conference in Barcelona on Friday, Lula emphasised the need for diplomacy, dialogue and multilateral solutions over military escalation. "Why did the UN, when it emerged, play an important role in the creation of the State of Israel, and today the UN cannot manage to legalise, to authorise the Palestinian State? The UN is very weakened," said the Brazilian leader, adding that "we want a world where sovereignty and the rules of multilateralism are respected." Both leaders highlighted their shared commitment to peace, international cooperation and a rules-based global order. “Both countries, both governments share the same vision of the world, which is anchored in the defence of democracy, in international cooperation, in respect for international law, above all to human rights, and peace. And that is the third message I would like to share with the public following this press conference. Because our governments, just as our societies think and feel, what we want is to redouble our efforts to work for peace and for a strengthened, and therefore renewed, multilateralism," noted Sanchez. The remarks come as part of a broader series of Spain-Brazil talks aimed at strengthening ties and promoting a common progressive agenda on the world stage."
