Flagged down - Israeli banner thrown from southern Lebanon castle as ceasefire takes hold

"Footage filmed on Friday shows a Lebanese man removing an Israeli flag from Qala'at al-Shaqif in southern Lebanon, throwing it from the top of the castle on the first day of a temporary ceasefire with Israel. According to Lebanese media, an Israeli army unit had briefly entered the site despite the ceasefire, raising a flag and installing solar-powered cameras before withdrawing. There has been no immediate comment from Israeli authorities. The ceasefire came into effect at midnight local time on Friday. US President Donald Trump said the agreement followed talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “I had excellent talks with the honourable Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two leaders agreed to begin an official ten-day ceasefire,” Trump said on social media. The Lebanese presidency confirmed that Aoun spoke with Trump and thanked him for efforts to secure the truce and support broader regional stability. Netanyahu said there is now “an opportunity to reach a historic peace agreement with Lebanon”, adding that both leaders may be invited to Washington DC to advance negotiations."
