"Residents of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre began returning to their homes on Friday, after the ceasefire agreement with Israel came into effect. Footage shows displaced people travelling in vehicles towards their towns, amidst scenes of destruction. "We fled to an area near Saida, and we received the news of my son Hussein’s martyrdom. I thanked God so much,” said returnee Ihsan Yazbek, fighting back tears as he recalled the death of his son Hussein in the conflict. "When I woke up today and started walking, my spirit came back to me. Everyone knows, we will not trade this land for all the treasures of the world," declared Samir Rassas, another resident. The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at 12:00 am local time on Friday (9:00 pm GMT on Thursday). "I had excellent conversations with President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. These two leaders have agreed that they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE," announced US President Donald Trump via Truth Social. The Lebanese Presidency stated that Aoun had received a call from Trump, "during which he reiterated his thanks for the efforts being made to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon and secure lasting peace and stability, paving the way for the peace process in the region". Meanwhile, Netanyahu announced in a recorded address that "we have an opportunity to reach a historic peace agreement with Lebanon, and President Trump intends to invite both the President of Lebanon and myself, in an effort to move this agreement forward".
