KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Sindh, Muhammad Ali Malkani has said that the Government of Sindh is soon introducing projects through which small farmers will be provided with loans on easy terms and modern medical facilities so that the eradication of poverty in rural areas becomes possible. He emphasized that in the current era, breeding livestock on scientific bases instead of traditional farming is the need of the hour. Inaugurated the three-day “Delfa Cattle Show Season 5” at the Karachi Expo Center, he said that the land of Sindh is extremely fertile regarding livestock; however, we must focus on modern gene technology and value addition to bring milk and meat production up to international standards. Muhammad Ali Malkani further stated that along with livestock, the fisheries sector is also a major source of increasing the country’s foreign exchange. He mentioned that the provincial government is pursuing a comprehensive policy for the promotion of marine fisheries and inland aquaculture so that fish breeding can be improved to gain access to international markets. He remarked that such shows act as a bridge between manufacturers, exporters, and farmers, which not only promotes local trade but also restores the confidence of foreign investors. At the invitation of the event organizers, Haris Ali Mithani and Zuhair Naseer, the Provincial Minister participated in the show and commenced the exhibition by cutting the ribbon. Provincial Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani, while praising the efforts of the cattle breeders and farmers present at the exhibition, stated that events like the Delna Cattle Show not only create investment opportunities in the livestock sector but also play a key role in acquainting farmers with modern scientific information and technology. He further added that the Government of Sindh considers the livestock and fisheries sector as the backbone of the economy and will continue all possible practical measures and policymaking for its improvement so that self-sufficiency in dairy and meat production can be achieved alongside an increase in exports. Following the opening ceremony, the Provincial Minister took a detailed tour of various sections of the show where he inspected high-breed cattle brought from across the country, modern dairy farming equipment, and stalls set up by relevant institutions. During a briefing on this occasion, he was informed that the purpose of this show is to promote local breed cattle rearing and modern technology for access to the global market. On this occasion, a large number of high-ranking officials and stakeholders were present, including Haris Mithani, Zuhair Naseer, Director General Livestock Hizbullah Bhutto, DG Sindh Institute of Animal Health Dr Nazir Hussain Kalhoro, DG Poultry Production and Research Dr Salahuddin Shah, DG Extension Dr Mubarak Jatoi, and DG Marine Fisheries Sindh Dr. Asim Karim. Experts participating in the exhibition stated that such events create awareness regarding breed improvement and public health of animals in the province, which is indispensable for the strength of the rural economy.
