'Smash Zionist terrorism' - Pro-Palestine activists rally in Athens amid tensions after alleged arson attack on gallery

"Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in central Athens on Friday, as activists called for a demonstration after an alleged firebomb attack on an art gallery displaying anti-Zionist slogans. Crowds assembled in the Monastiraki area and nearby streets of the district, often referred to locally as 'Little Tel Aviv', with organisers urging mobilisation against what they describe as 'Israeli aggression' and 'terrorism'. Footage shows demonstrators waving Palestinian flags, holding banners and chanting slogans as the rally got underway. One banner read: 'Smash Zionist terrorism', while another stated: 'Zionists not welcome'. Speaking at the rally, Konstantina Katsoti, a left-wing activist, said demonstrators were responding to what she described as ongoing attacks on pro-Palestinian spaces. "We are rallying against the daily attacks on people and pro-Palestinian establishments… they aim at whoever resists the occupation of Palestine," she said. Abu Salem, a Palestinian refugee, called for an end to the war in Gaza. "We want to stop the genocide… we say, 'Stop genocide, free Palestine'," the man said. Maria Kountoura, a member of the Antizionist Front, urged residents of Athens to join the mobilisation, linking it to broader anti-fascist movements. "We call on the people of Athens to join us… in solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoners," she said. The demonstration follows the firebombing of an art gallery in Athens that displayed pro-Palestinian messages earlier this week. This incident has further escalated political tensions in the Greek capital, and the gallery remains closed while authorities continue their investigation."
