'Stop that bill!' - Hundreds rally in London against Israel's execution law for Palestinians, call on UK govt to intervene

"Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in London to protest against Israel's recently passed law that mandates the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of 'terrorist' acts. Footage shows protesters rallying on Downing Street and across central London with Palestinian flags, lit flares, chanting slogans and holding banners such as 'Forced starvation', 'End apartheid; Stop executions; Sanction Israel now', Degenerate Zionists; release 9000+ Palestinian hostages from their torture cells now!' A line of activists, dressed as prisoners, is also seen kneeling as a mock execution takes place. "The protest today was about the heinous execution bill that's been passed in Israel, to try to impose the death penalty on prisoners in Israeli jails," said Leila. Another demonstrator, Sam, described the legislation as 'a continuation of the ethnic cleansing and the genocide', warning of broader consequences if it is implemented. "If the world allows this to go ahead, they’re literally just giving the green card for Israel to do as they please and to kill as they please in the whole of the region," the man added. Leila also emphasised that the proposed measures are discriminatory, arguing they would disproportionately target Palestinians. "The same law wouldn't apply to Israelis or Jewish settlers that have murdered Palestinians. It wouldn't apply to them," she noted. Protesters also argued that the United Kingdom has both the influence and responsibility to respond more decisively, criticising what they described as a lack of meaningful action from British authorities. "The UK government could, if they wanted to, put pressure on the Israeli government; they could sanction Israel. There's a lot they can do, but they refuse to do anything meaningful," Leila added. Israel ratified the death penalty bill at the end of March, after it passed its first reading in November 2025. The legislation imposes the death penalty on those tried before military courts and applies to individuals who 'intentionally cause the death of a person with the aim of denying the existence of the State of Israel'. Several Palestinian groups condemned the law, while the European Union described it as a 'dangerous step backwards'. The measure was also condemned by Egypt, Jordan, and the Arab Parliament."
