Marikina City Day job fair records 66 on-the-spot hires

MANILA, Philippines — Sixty-six job seekers were hired on the spot at the Marikina City Day Job Fair, where 1,227 applicants registered for employment opportunities, Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro said on Saturday, April 18. The job fair was held on Thursday, April 16, as part of Marikina’s 396th founding anniversary celebration. The city government said nearly 50 companies from the private and public sectors joined the activity, offering jobs in food, retail, manufacturing and other industries. Five overseas employment agencies also took part for applicants seeking work abroad. Among the participating firms were Ace Hardware Phils., Goldilocks, LBC Express, Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corp., Power Mac Center, The Medical City and Bonchon Chicken Philippines. Government agencies such as the Social Security System, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Pag-IBIG, PhilHealth, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration also provided services during the fair. Teodoro said the city organized the job fair to help Marikina residents and nearby job seekers find work at a time of economic strain. “Now more than ever, it’s important to hold job fairs for people to find stable employment,” she said. “In this time of crisis, we want to help our fellow Marikina residents find jobs,” she added. The mayor said the first applicant hired on the spot was a 20-year-old Marikina resident who got a job as a supermarket clerk. She also said the city would continue expanding its job fairs and the number of companies joining them.
