"Dozens of cars staged a motorcade protest in Berlin on Friday as frustration grows over the rising cost of living and the perceived impact of government war spending on domestic priorities. Footage shows a convoy of around 80 motorists arriving in the capital from Emden, honking horns and waving German flags, before gathering in a public square where anti-government chants rang out. "We have fuel costs that are immensely high. We have food costs that are immensely high. […] We want peace in this whole world, so that no more people and no more children die. And we must prevent that by no longer sending money abroad and financing wars," added protest organiser Sebastian. Others voiced their frustration at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, accusing him of reneging on campaign pledges and placing greater emphasis on foreign conflicts while pressures on living standards and public services at home continue to mount. "What really annoys me is that the Chancellor lied so much that he promised before the election what he would do and then didn't keep any of it afterwards. That is my main concern. You can't just lie to the people and then expect it to have no consequences," said activist Achim. "We want to send a signal for peace and against the war, against further payments to Ukraine," said activist Heimund. "We want the government to resign completely. We want a government that is there for the German people and takes care of the worries and needs of the citizens, and does not transfer taxpayer money abroad to support wars." The protests come amid a broader wave of demonstrations worldwide as discontent over rising living costs and fuel supply disruptions intensifies, driven by ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
