Bombed bridges - Lebanese army leads reconstruction of Litani River crossing amid ceasefire

"An engineering unit from the Lebanese Army and the National Litani River Authority began building a replacement bridge in Tayr Felsay on Saturday after the previous one was destroyed during the war. Footage shows cranes and bulldozers transporting concrete rings and Lebanese army members overseeing construction. "We have been building a temporary crossing beneath the 6 February Bridge in cooperation with the Lebanese Army and the Al-Risala Medical Aid Society at the volunteer centre in Tayrfelsay, as well as the Zararia volunteer centre," stated Sadr Maatouk, one of the crane operators. "We are doing this work to facilitate people's passage from the north of the river to the south, due to the destruction of the bridges during the war," he added. Authorities aim to create a passageway on the banks of the Litani in the Bdeias area of the Tyre district, to facilitate the movement of convoys of displaced people to the southern villages. The Israeli army struck the Tayrfelsay Bridge over the Litani River on 13 March, along with several other bridges, claiming that Hezbollah was using them 'to cross and transport weapons, rockets and rocket launchers'. US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which came into effect on Friday. This announcement followed direct talks hosted in Washington between Lebanese and Israeli officials."
