'Welcome to the dark side' - Thousands parade through Santiago in Star Wars costumes, raising funds for fire-hit school

"Fans in Santiago took part in the so-called 'Parade of the Galaxies', an urban event inspired by the Star Wars saga that combined entertainment, pop culture and solidarity. Footage filmed on Saturday shows hundreds of cosplayers dressed as iconic characters from the Star Wars universe, alongside science fiction fans and artistic groups, in a colourful procession through the city centre of the Chilean capital. "I have been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember, since I was a child, and I think the parade is a really great opportunity for Star Wars fans to come together," shared Juan Pablo, a participant. The parade began near the Universidad de Chile metro station and moved on to Plaza Los Heroes, where a large part of the attending public gathered. Along the route, the atmosphere was marked by stage performances and live music. "For me, it is an honour to prepare all year for this. I think it is perfect that this takes place here in Santiago and that it can also spread to other regions. Welcome to the dark side," said Vader Rodriguez, a Star Wars fan. Beyond its recreational purpose, the event had a charitable purpose: collecting donations for the Vipla School of Lirquen, an educational institution severely affected by a recent fire. "This year, it is aimed entirely at children from the Lirquen school. It is a cooperative effort, a free family event. So I am happy to share and be able to do this," emphasised Fernando Monserrat, a Pedro Pascal impersonator in the role of The Mandalorian. The 'Parade of the Galaxies' has established itself as one of the most striking and anticipated urban cultural activities in Santiago, combining mass entertainment with support initiatives for vulnerable communities."
