"Residents of Russia's St Petersburg witnessed an unusual atmospheric phenomenon on Friday night - a bright, flickering trail resembling a jellyfish, left behind by the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket launch. Footage shows a glowing streak cutting across the dark sky, hovering like a luminous cloud in the sky above residential buildings. Space jellyfish are associated with rocket launches. They usually occur when the sun is no longer illuminating the Earth’s surface, but its rays still strike the condensation trail left by the spacecraft. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket had been launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region."
