"Abu Dhabi hosted the 'Run for the Nation' race on Saturday, bringing together over 25,000 participants from across society. The event is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle as well as to commemorate sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes. Footage shows participants running and aerial displays from fighter jets painting the sky in vibrant colours. Participants can also be seen engaging in traditional Emirati performances and signing a mural emblazoned with the words 'Proud of the UAE'. "We have participants from all nationalities," said participant Amir Al-Hamadi. “What’s most important is that everyone here feels safe, and everyone here feels that the UAE offers peace and security.” Fellow athlete, Mello from South Africa shared her thoughts on the race. "We ran for the UAE. The reason I actually participated in the run for the nation is basically to celebrate UAE after everything we have been through. And I believe that we are stronger together as we are all united," she explained. Organisers say the race is part of an initiative to "enhance community awareness of the importance of physical fitness, while reinforcing values of belonging and loyalty to the nation.” The committee also shared that the event also reflects “appreciation for the sacrifices of the martyrs commemorated at Wahat Al Karama, one of the UAE’s major national landmarks." The race featured a single 5-kilometre category, allowing anyone to participate. "
