Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac in Beef Season one of Netflix ’s dark comedy Beef centred on a road rage incident between two complete strangers, played by Steven Yeun and Ali Wong , which dramatically spirals out of control and takes over both of their lives. The second run in the anthology series starts a totally separate story, following the feud between a newly-engaged Gen Z couple, played by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny, and a pair of married millennials, portrayed by Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac . If you’ve already binged all eight episodes of Beef’s second iteration, you might now be wondering if a third is on the cards. Here’s everything we can tell you so far about what’s next for Beef... Will there be a season 3 of Beef? When it launched in 2023, Beef was billed as a limited series, but after it became a huge hit for Netflix – winning eight Emmys and three Golden Globes – it was eventually commissioned for a second season. At the time of writing, a third iteration is yet to be announced, but given that Netflix is now referring to Beef an anthology series, it’s a fair bet that this will be on the cards in the future. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that there was a three-year gap between the first and second seasons, meaning we might be waiting a while to see the next beef play out. Although Netflix has yet to confirm if Beef will be back for a third outing, creator and showrunner Lee Sung Jin told Rolling Stone all the way back in 2023 that he always envisioned the show running for at least three seasons. “I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet, but I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently,” he claimed. At the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Lee also revealed that he had always pitched Beef as an anthology series, telling Deadline there were “always going to be new characters”. Beef creator Lee Sung Jin What could happen in Beef season 3? Effectively, season three of Beef could be about anything, because each iteration tells a totally separate story with a brand new cast, in keeping with other anthology series like The White Lotus or American Horror Story . The only thing that ties season one and its successor together is that they both contain feuds. In an interview with Korea Times , Lee Sung Jin explained that the two series were “spiritual siblings”, explaining: “Season two is a natural progression from where we ended season one.” So, if we get a third series, it will likely thematically progress from where series two ends. And even if a specific plot is being kept under wraps, Lee has made it clear he already has characters in mind, when it comes to future seasons of Beef. He also previously told Elle that, in his initial pitch for the comedy-drama, there were “multiple other beefs and other character types to explore”. In this day and age, there are lots of things to be angry about and start feuds over, so the writers have plenty to work with… Both seasons of Beef are available to stream on Netflix now.
