Angola calling - Pope Leo arrives in Luanda as Africa apostolic tour continues

"Pope Leo XIV landed in Luanda on Saturday and was received by President Joao Lourenco at the Presidential Protocol Hall, as his 10-day Africa apostolic tour continues. Footage shows people dancing ahead of the pontiff's arrival, before President Lourenco and First Lady Ana Afonso Dias greet him. Pope Leo XIV then delivers a speech inside the hall, attended by Catholic clergy and other officials. "The work your society is doing is about preparing for the future. We see ourselves as part of that continuity, alongside those brave people moved by grace, striving and hope, and standing with those rejected by the world but chosen by God. That is where our hope was born," Pope Leo said. "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone: Jesus Christ, in the attitude of man and of history. May God bless Angola," he continued. Pope Leo is expected to visit the towns of Muxima and Saurimo after arriving in Luanda for a four-day stay in Angola, with key events including an airport welcoming ceremony, a meeting with the president, and efforts to promote regional peace dialogue. A historic 10-day apostolic journey which began in Algeria on April 13 is due to continue in Angola and Equatorial Guinea through April 23."
