"Zimbabwe marked its 46th anniversary of Independence Day on Saturday, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa presiding over a military parade and other celebrations at Maphisa Stadium in Matabeleland South. Footage shows the national anthem ceremony at the start of the event, as well as Mnangagwa inspecting the parade from a military vehicle and delivering a speech. Performers also wowed the participants with fire stunts and motorcycle acrobatics. "Today, we own and produce from the land they fought for, to reclaim after nearly a century of colonial subjugation, we salute all our veterans of the armed liberation struggle for their heroic acts, their bravery, their courage, and commitment to the birth of a liberated and united nation," Mnangagwa said. "It is now my honour and privilege to wish all Zimbabweans here and those at home, and those abroad in the diaspora, a happy and memorable 46th Independence anniversary. Long live our unity. Long live our peace. Long live our independence," he congratulated the nation. Under the theme 'Zimbabwe at 46: Unity and Development towards Vision 2030', the celebrations also included a parade by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and other cultural performances. Zimbabwe officially became independent from British colonial rule on April 18, 1980. The African nation gained its independence following the first democratic election, which was won by the indigenous people."
