'Sacrificed his life for Islam' - Thousands of Pakistanis mark 40 days after passing of Iran's late Supreme Leader

"Thousands of Pakistanis in Gilgit-Baltistan marked the 40th day since the death of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran. Footage captured on Sunday shows crowds waving Pakistani and Iranian flags and Hezbollah banners, as well as pictures of the late Supreme Leader, as well as his successor Mojtaba Khamenei and the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. "People from nearly all the villages of Gilgit are gathered here and without exaggeration, they belong from all sects and are here to pay tribute to Ayatollah Khamenei and those who have sacrificed their lives for Islam in the region," said Ali Abbas Shah, the protest organiser. "The rift that Israel appears to be attempting to widen between Iran and the United States is being handled maturely by Iran. Iran’s role in this complex geopolitical landscape is increasingly being recognised," he added. Although he was killed more than 40 days ago, Iran had not announced the date or location of the funeral of Ali Khamenei at the time of publication. The US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28. Tehran subsequently confirmed Khamenei’s death on the first day of the strikes. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was later chosen as his successor. Tehran responded with strikes against Israel and US interests across the region, with reports of explosions in several Gulf states. On April 8, the United States and Iran reached a conditional ceasefire agreement for two weeks, followed by talks in Islamabad mediated by Pakistan, which have not yet led to a final agreement between the two parties."
