Foreign ministry denies Wang Yi visit delay due to Taiwan labeling issue

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday denied reports that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s planned visit to South Korea had been delayed over recent changes to Korea’s electronic arrival card system, calling the measures “a simple administrative and technical adjustment” to improve visitor convenience. The ministry said it is “not true” that the change led to a delay in Wang’s visit, adding that no specific arrangements had been made and that Seoul remains open to hosting him as a follow-up to the Korea-China summit in January. A foreign ministry official said the change to the entry system was unrelated to the timing of Wang’s visit, adding that “it would be difficult to interpret the scheduling issue as reflecting any problem in bilateral relations.” The official said the two sides have been communicating on various issues and that discussions on the visit are ongoing.
