"French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk at a joint press conference in Gdansk on Monday welcomed the victory of Peter Magyar recently elected as the next Hungarian Prime Minister. "It is indeed a new era for Hungary under Mr. Magyar. And this new era will also be a new era in Europe," Macron said. French President shared optimism about progress possibility on the EU's €90 billion support loan package for Ukraine, previously blocked under Hungary's former Prime Minister Viktor Orban initiative. "It is very positive both for Ukraine and for us, as well as for our credibility. This is very good news," Macron added. In turn, Tusk said Magyar is planning to come to Warsaw during his first foreign trip as prime minister to Poland. "The victory of the democrats in Hungary was received in Poland with similar enthusiasm as our win in 2023. It is a very important sign that Europe is not lost yet," Tusk said. Touching upon the issue of the Middle East tensions, Macron advised the US and Iran to resort to diplomacy to end the week-long war. "This problem needs to be solved by means of diplomacy. We must return to the decisions that were made on Friday, achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon, and establish a lasting peace through negotiations. This is our task now," he added. Macron and Tusk met at a summit in Gdansk to discuss defence cooperation between the two countries."
