Magyar appoints ORBAN as FM... but not that one! - New PM unveils top team

"Hungary’s Prime Minister-designate Peter Magyar unveiled his proposed cabinet on Monday and outlined his policy shift following a landmark election victory that brought an end to Viktor Orban's longstanding rule. Among the nominations, he named Anita Orban — who shares a surname with the outgoing leader but is not related — as his candidate for foreign minister. Speaking ahead of the formation of a new government, Magyar signalled the direction of his incoming administration. On international policy, he stressed that Hungary would remain committed to the International Criminal Court, rejecting any plans to withdraw from the institution. “We are not stepping back… it is the firm intention of the Tisza government to halt this and ensure that Hungary remains a member of the International Criminal Court,” he said. Magyar also set out plans to reset relations with the European Union, indicating that one of his first official visits would be to Brussels to secure the release of frozen EU funds. “My expectation is that… we will be able to sign a political agreement… After that, Brussels will be able to release the funds,” he stated. He sharply criticised the previous administration, accusing it of damaging Hungary’s standing within the bloc. “In my view, what Viktor Orban and his government have done amounts to a betrayal,” Magyar said. The Prime Minister-designate also addressed regional energy concerns, calling for the resumption of oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline. “If Druzhba is operational, it should be opened… we expect the Russians to fulfil crude oil deliveries in accordance with the contracts,” he said. Magyar’s Tisza Party secured a historic victory in Hungary’s parliamentary elections on April 12, ending Orban’s 16-year tenure in power and marking one of the most significant political shifts in the country in decades. According to the Prime Minister-designate, Hungary’s newly-elected parliament is expected to convene in early May, likely on May 6 or 7, paving the way for the formal formation of the new government."
