DMW assures aid, justice for 2 OFWs killed in Lebanon

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday extended assistance to the families of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) killed in Beirut, Lebanon last April 15. In a statement, the DMW said the pair was killed by their employer during a hostage incident in the Lebanese capital. “The victims, both long-time household service workers in the residence, were fatally shot during the incident. The employer has been arrested and is currently under police custody pending formal charges,” the DMW said. DMW Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Felicitas Bay will personally visit the victims’ families to convey their condolences to assure them of government support. The DMW said the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Beirut, together with the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon, is “coordinating with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and the filing of appropriate charges”.
