Blame game - Washington, Beijing, Moscow and Kiev trade accusations over Russia-Ukraine, Iran conflicts at UNSC

"Tempers flared at the UN Security Council on Monday after ambassadors from the US and China accused each other of aiding Russia’s war in Ukraine, prompting a swift response from Moscow. "We urge China to immediately stop supplying Russia the dual-use goods and material components that enable its war effort," Tammy Bruce, US Deputy Representative to the United Nations, said during the emergency session on the conflict in Ukraine. The US envoy also accused Russia and Iran of colluding and providing military support to each other. "Russia's military support to Iran endangers the security of the Gulf cooperation countries. We call on Russia to abide by the resolutions of this Council," Bruce added. China accused the US of repeating 'old rhetoric' and engaging in what it described as 'slanderous practices'. "China is not the creator of the crisis," Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Sun Lei said. "Since the crisis broke out, there has been a long-term provision of weapons to the battlefield in an attempt to prolong the war." Russia’s envoy accused the European Union and Ukraine of staging what he called a “cheap second-rate performance” to prevent global attention from shifting to other crises. He also hit out at Western countries for fuelling the conflict by continuing to arm Ukraine and dismissed claims about Russian ceasefire violations, alleging instead that Ukrainian forces had repeatedly breached a recently-announced truce. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s representative rejected Moscow’s claims, saying they were part of a broader pattern of disinformation. He said Russian forces continued to target civilian infrastructure using drones, missiles and aerial bombs, resulting in widespread destruction and casualties. The Ukrainian envoy added that claims made by Russia about civilian harm caused by Ukrainian forces could not be independently verified and insisted Kiev does not attack civilians. The exchange took place during United Nations Security Council's high-level meeting on the 'Maintenance of Peace and Security in Ukraine,' addressing the ongoing conflict and global implications."
