MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Mel Senen Sarmiento as the new Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (Opapru). Palace press officer Claire Castro in a message on Tuesday confirmed that Marcos earlier accepted the resignation of retired military general Carlito Galvez Jr. from the post. Prior to this new appointment, Sarmiento served as Samar First District representative in the House from 2010 to 2015.
