Workers' Day in Italy is celebrated with free concert in Rome. Italy celebrates Labour Day, a national public holiday, with a free concert in Rome's Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano on 1 May 2026. The Festa dei Lavoratori or Festa del Lavoro falls on a Friday this year so will result in a day off for Italy's schools and public offices, leading to a long weekend. Known as the concertone, the annual concert is billed as the biggest free music event in Europe, attracting established Italian acts alongside rising stars. Organised by Italy's trade unions, the concert is also used as a platform to promote workers' rights, confronting issues ranging from discrimination against women to safety in the workplace. The concert, from 15.00 until midnight, will be broadcast live on Rai3, Radio2 and RaiPlay. The 2026 line-up features around 40 acts including Angelica Bove, Birthh, Delia, Ditonellapiaga, Eddie Brock, Emma Nolde, Fulminacci, Frah Quintale, Geolier, La Niña, Riccardo Cocciante, Sayf and Litfiba. More names are set to be announced in the coming days. The Primo Maggio event will result in numerous traffic diversions in the area on Monday as well as the closure of San Giovanni metro station.
