Sindh govt’s new wheat policy to benefit small farmers: Sharjeel

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that abolishing the wheat sale limit and the five-sacks-per-acre condition is a highly important decision. The Sindh government’s move will directly benefit small farmers, enabling them to sell their produce at government centers without any hindrance. In a statement, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that setting the wheat support price at Rs3,500 and fixing the procurement target at 1 million metric tons reflects the government’s farmer-friendly policies. Instructions to accelerate the wheat procurement campaign and take measures in districts with low procurement will help ensure that the target is achieved. He added that providing a fuel subsidy to farmers through Sindh Bank within a day is a strong example of transparency and efficiency. So far, the timely disbursement of crores of rupees has increased farmers’ confidence. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the district administration, assistant commissioners, and other concerned officers have been mobilized in the field to ensure that farmers do not face any problems. Farmers are encouraged to sell their wheat at government procurement centers to receive immediate payment and access government facilities. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
