MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives is set to resume the hearings on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte today, Wednesday, to focus on her alleged unexplained wealth, which is covered in one of the charges. For this hearing, the justice committee has summoned former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona Jr., who sits as the chairman of the Anti-Money Laundering Council, as well as officials from the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The hearing hopes to determine whether Duterte and her husband and lawyer Manases Carpio had accumulated unexplained wealth based on Duterte's statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth. Several lawmakers have pressed Duterte to attend the hearings to explain her side, but the vice president has opted not to attend as she stressed that impeachment was not one of her priorities right now. Her defense team and several of her legal allies have a pending motion at the Supreme Court that stops the proceedings.
