Bill on uniform hospital billing filed in Senate

MANILA – Senator Erwin Tulfo filed a bill requiring health providers to disclose charges, including professional fees, in an itemized format. Tulfo on Wednesday said Senate Bill 1987 shall mandate hospitals to issue a complete statement of account covering facility charges, medicines and supplies, laboratory and diagnostic services, and professional fees, including the names, specialties, and services rendered by attending health workers. He said many patients continue to receive hospital bills that are not fully itemized, making it difficult for families to verify and understand the actual cost of care.
