'I feel deeply moved' - Monks from over 40,000 temples of Thailand gather for mass meditation on Earth Day

"Thousands of Buddhist monks and devotees gathered at Wat Phra Dhammakaya to mark Earth Day with mass meditation, with participation from more than 40,000 temples across Thailand. Footage captured on Wednesday shows rows of monks assembling for mass meditation alongside thousands of lay followers seated in organised formation. "I feel very happy and deeply moved by what we are seeing here today. It is very rare to witness monks from across the country gathering together like this from more than 40,000 temples," one of the visiting monks said. Another monk said the event reflected the strength of Buddhism. "When you see the monastic community gathered together here at Dhammakaya Temple, it makes you feel that Buddhism is truly flourishing," he said. Another participant expressed appreciation for those behind the event’s organisation. "I would like to thank everyone involved, including the parents and teachers, for their kindness and compassion, and all those who helped organise this event, allowing the teachings of Buddhism to be carried forward into the future." The Earth Day event at Wat Phra Dhammakaya marked the 82nd birthday anniversary of Luang Por Dhammajayo, founder and honorary abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya. He co-founded the temple in 1970 and has held the position of honorary abbot since 2016."
