"The papal plane took off from Malabo International Airport for Rome on Thursday, marking the grand finale of Pope Leo XIV’s historic 11-day Apostolic Journey across the African continent. Footage shows the Pontiff arriving at the airport alongside the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, amidst a farewell ceremony conducted with solemn military honours. In a gesture of deep respect, Vice President Teodoro - the president’s son - was seen kissing the Pope’s hand before the Pontiff ascended the aircraft. This 11-day tour, starting in Algeria on April 13 with stops in Cameroon and Angola, is Pope Leo XIV’s first as pontiff, highlighting the Catholic Church’s growing influence in Africa."
