Malabon marks 25th cityhood anniversary

MALABON City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval urged residents Thursday to embody the spirit of “bayanihan” (communal unity) amid energy challenges resulting from the war in the Middle East. The mayor issued the call as Malabon celebrates its 25th cityhood anniversary. “As we celebrate Malabon’s 25th Cityhood Anniversary, let me remind that cooperation and volunteerism must prevail upon us in the wake of the economic challenges most of us are experiencing nowadays,” Sandoval said in a statement. “The spirit of bayanihan would serve as our strength in order for all of us here in our beloved city to overcome whatever crisis that will come,” she added. Sandoval noted that the city remains proactive in ensuring the continuous delivery of basic and direct services while encouraging volunteerism among residents. City Administrator Alex Rosete said Malabon has rolled out several programs under the “Walang Tulugan Serbisyo” caravan for the occasion, including the release of the second tranche of the Malabon Ahon Blue Card financial assistance to 93,000 households and a mega job fair. “We also hold the monthlong Malabon Pasalubong Trade Fair, which promotes products of local micro, small and medium enterprises to boost the local economy,” Rosete said. Rosete named other projects such as mobile shower, mobile laundry, mobile water and charging station, first aid and safety training, and distribution of financial assistance and pensions to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Malabon became a city by virtue of Republic Act 9019, which was authored by former representative Ricky Sandoval, the mayor’s husband.
