'Our fathers are innocent!' - ABSPP HQ unsealed in Milan after Genoa court overturns seizure order, Hannoun remains in custody

"The headquarters of the Charity Association of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (ABSPP) in Milan reopened on Friday morning after a reversal decision by the Genoa Court of Review annulled the preventive seizure orders against several of the suspects and their properties. Footage filmed on Friday shows the ABSPP office reopening to welcome the visitors. "We have reopened this office to show people that our work is humanitarian, carried out with complete transparency, and aimed solely at helping those most in need, not only in the Gaza Strip. [...] But also in the West Bank and Jerusalem, in refugee camps throughout Palestine," said ABSPP member Falastin Dawoud. In late December, Italy's counter-terrorism forces carried out raids and arrested nine people, including the organisation's president, Mohammed Hannoun, a Palestinian architect. Italian police said the nine suspects were arrested on suspicion of raising around €7 million for Hamas over more than two years. Authorities allege that funds collected as humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians were instead transferred to the group through what they described as a 'complex fundraising system'. "When we saw the result on April 8, we felt relieved, because they finally stated clearly what we had been saying for a long time: our fathers are innocent people who were only carrying out humanitarian work. Now we hope that soon we will see them active again in the headquarters," Dawoud added. A hearing took place at the Court of Review in Genoa in late January, with defence lawyers requesting the release of Hannoun and the six other detainees. In April 2026, Italy's Supreme Court annulled the arrest warrant for Mohammad Hannoun after ruling key Israeli intelligence evidence inadmissible. Hannoun remains in custody pending a new review by the Genoa tribunal."
