MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday vowed to increase funding for local government units (LGUs) in the next national budget to help expand their programs. The President made the commitment during his visit to Batangas City, where he witnessed the distribution of rice under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), observed an orientation for Presidential Scholars under the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF), and led the turnover of SCPF financial assistance to presidents of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC). In his remarks, Marcos urged local officials to properly implement government programs to justify increased funding in the coming year. “We will continue doing this, and I’m telling all of you, do not think this is a one-time effort. But I also return the challenge to you—our government officials and our local governments—do your best in implementing these programs,” Marcos said. “If the results are good, you can expect that in the next budget, we will allocate even more funds for this,” he added.
