THE Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) on Friday launched an air-conditioned waiting room at the northbound area of Baclaran station, aiming to provide relief to commuters amid rising summer temperatures. The facility, open to all LRT-1 passengers, offers a cooled space where commuters can stay while waiting for incoming trains, particularly during peak heat hours. LRMC president and chief executive officer Enrico Benipayo said the project forms part of the company’s efforts to improve daily travel conditions for passengers. “Our goal is to constantly find ways to make the daily journey better for our passengers. This new air-conditioned space is a simple yet significant way to provide additional comfort, especially during these hot summer months,” Benipayo said. The waiting area was developed through a partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – Mahajak Air Conditioners Co. Ltd., which supplied the cooling systems installed at the station. LRMC said priority use of the facility will be given to senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with special needs, in line with efforts to make station amenities more inclusive. Passengers were also advised to use the waiting room only during train intervals and proceed to the boarding area once their train arrives, to allow others to access the space.
