"Construction work is underway at a stadium in Nairobi as pressure mounts on Kenyan authorities to get the venue ready for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Footage filmed on Thursday shows lorries entering Talanta Sports Stadium, construction materials lying outside the stadium's boundary wall, and workers on site. The rush comes amid reports that the tournament could be moved from its original hosts due to growing concerns over delays in infrastructure development, with South Africa now being considered as a potential replacement. The tournament was initially awarded by the Confederation of African Football to a joint Kenya-Uganda-Tanzania bid on April 7, 2023, marking the first time three countries were selected to co-host the competition. However, slow progress cast doubt on Kenya's ability to deliver the event, scheduled for June 19 to July 18, 2027. According to the Kenyan sports ministry, the state-of-the-art, 60,000-seater stadium dedicated exclusively to football was slated for completion in December 2025."
