Frozen no more! Cars emerge from towering snowdrifts in Russia's Kamchatka

"Dozens of cars are beginning to emerge from deep snowbanks in Russia's Kamchatka, many revealing significant damage after months buried under heavy drifts amid an unusually snowy start to spring. Footage captured on Friday shows a local man brushing thick layers of snow off his car. The video also reveals cracked windshields, dented roofs and broken rear-view mirrors on several of the recently thawed vehicles. "We have special snowdrops this year - these are cars that were covered with a huge amount of snow," said Timur Babenko, a local. "Maybe more than 50 cars all over the city are still under the snow, despite the fact that the month of May is coming soon." Babenko noted that Kamchatka experienced record snowfall this winter, adding that many in the local community had dug up their cars and moved them to garages.

"But as I said before, some people left their cars as they were, so they're covered with a lot of snow now. It will be a big problem to dig them out and then start them up, as this is a huge stress for the car," he continued.
In January, Kamchatka was hit by unusually heavy snowfall driven by a succession of cyclones, with snowdrifts in the regional centre reaching more than a metre in some areas."
