Cagayan festival highlights use of charcoal from alternative materials

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – A festival in Buguey, Cagayan on Saturday highlighted the use of charcoal made from alternative materials instead of the usual wood. The town’s 4th Agri Festival featured the roasting of 140 pigs and the cooking of large volumes of vegetables and rice cakes which were serve to everyone in attendance. The charcoal briquettes used in cooking were made from corn cob (ambuligan), rice hull (taep), and twig (runo), common after-harvest by-products which are usually thrown away, even burned.
