Inspection finds most taxis in Helsinki errant

A significant number of taxis operating in the capital region were found to run without following proper rules and procedures. Police in cooperation with other authorities inspected a total of 36 taxis during a joint surveillance on Friday in Helsinki and found 21 of them were operating with various deficiencies, said police in a press release on Saturday. Police also fined nine drivers on various charges during the surveillance. The most deficiencies were found in the documents regarding information of the companies, drivers and vehicles. Two vehicles were not registered as taxi, taxes of two taxis remained unpaid and three taxis were running with technical faults. Names of some drivers were not visible to the passengers and some drivers failed to show necessary documents, said police. The surveillance was carried out in cooperation with the Helsinki Police, Finnish Transport and Communications Agency- Traficom, Finnish Supervisory Agency and the Tax Administration.
